Course Description

"PRE-RECORDED EVENT (Self-Study)
This introductory course for OT/COTAs, and PT/PTAs covers the basic theoretical background to modality use by rehabilitation specialists. Theory is presented against the background of practical realities of therapists in the field. Modalities covered will be electrotherapy (High Volt, NMES, TENS, Interferential current, Russian current, Microcurrent, and more), Ultrasound and Shortwave Diathermy. At the conclusion of the presentation, commonly used treatment protocols are presented as a guideline for use by the therapists in the field.

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the theoretical background to the use of electrotherapy, ultrasound and shortwave diathermy in rehabilitation
  • List the correct parameters for commonly used modality protocols
  • Name precautions and contraindications for each of the modalities above

Yorick Wijting

PT, DPT

Yorick received his Physical Therapy degree in the Netherlands and his DPT at the University of St. Augustine, Florida. He has extensive training and practical experience in biophysical agents and teaches nationally and internationally to medical professionals on their therapeutic use. Yorick has been instrumental in developing the use of electrical stimulation by Speech Language Pathologists in the treatment of dysphagia. Yorick currently lives in California and runs his private practice in Gilroy, CA.
