Course Description

PRE-RECORDED EVENT (Self Study)
Feeding problems commonly complicate the care of preterm and term infants in the NICU. Delayed oral feedings lead to prolonged length of stay, need for gastrostomy tube (GTT) and family stress and separation. Recently, a study was completed on the use of NMES in the neonatal population. This one hour teleconference will describe and discuss the results, strengths, and weaknesses of this pilot research study (randomized control double blind study with a blind evaluator and a 2 year follow-up to monitor maintenance of skill levels) completed at CHOC Childrens Hospital in the NICU with high-risk neonates.
