Course Description

There are two ways to participate in this live event, as either part of the live studio audience in Gulf Breeze, Florida or via live stream around the world. Live stream participants will receive instructions in the confirmation e-mail on how to access the event from their computer and interact with the instructor. This course will work to increase understanding of muscle fatigue: what it is, how it affects the system, and its impact with the swallow system when retraining muscles. In addition to foundational information to explain fatigue in a muscle system, descriptions and case studies will be presented related to disease processes where fatigue is a factor, such as ALS and Myasthenia Gravis. Treatment strategies and the use of VitalStim as a modality will be discussed.
Disclosure: Course offering will only cover information that pertains to the effective and safe use of VitalStim.

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of fatigue and its effect on a muscle system.
  • Determine what causes muscle fatigue and its impact in therapy to retrain muscles.
  • Identify fatigue in disease processes such as ALS and Myasthenia Gravis.
