Intraoral Myofascial Restriction and Manual Therapy in Dysphagia Management
This interactive, one hour, educational session will introduce the dysphagia specialist to treatment techniques appropriate for soft tissue restrictions that contribute to an abnormal swallow. Lecture reviews muscular and fascial anatomy tying biomechanics and kinesiology into specific intraoral, soft tissue mobilization techniques. Case study integrates the interpretation of common pathology and symptomatology that may contribute to aspirative events and video instruction exemplifies the application of these useful techniques.

Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Review the anatomy/physiology and kinesiology pertaining to myofascia specific to intraoral deglutition
- Describe consequences of muscular and soft tissue dysfunction and their influence on the oral phase
- Discuss the indications, precautions and contraindications of myofascial mobilization
- Identify proper treatment approaches utilizing manual technique through case study
- Video review of select myofascial release techniques appropriate case study presentations

John is NDT certified and an experienced manual orthopedic therapist working toward his clinical doctorate and manual therapy certification.
