Kinesiology Taping for the Dysphagia Specialist

Medical taping has a variety of applications within the context of musculoskeletal impairment and kinesiology taping techniques have gained the attention of rehabilitative providers. Therapeutic application provides re-education of the neuromuscular system, influence lymphatic drainage easing inflammatory fluid stasi while improving localized circulation and modulate pain. Diagnoses familiar to the Speech Language Pathologist in dysphonia and dysphagia benefit from its use. Taping strategies offer muscular inhibition as in craniomandibular hypertonus, muscular recruitment facilitating oral contro, hyolaryngeal movement/stability and scapular engagement while minimizing provocative postural compensations. This session seeks to educate the dysphagia clinician on the therapeutic benefit of taping to improve motor patterns and facilitate a client's functional independence.
