Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation for the Management of Muscle Wasting

This course, titled Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation for the Management of Muscle Wasting, consists of an online video and a live component. The online video course lasts 2 hours and is divided in two parts. The first part deals with the fundamentals of electrical stimulation and the second part focuses on the fundamentals of the neuromuscular system.

Completion of the 2hr online video course is a prerequisite to attending the live course. The live course is 1.5 days and includes lectures on evidence-based practice, clinical decision-making process, research-based evidence, and contraindications and risks associated with the practice of NMES. It also includes the presentation of clinical protocols and plenty of hands-on sessions under supervision.

Registration of this course will include both the online and live components. You will receive an email confirmation once registered.

LIVE COURSE FULL DESCRIPTION:
One of the best ways to learn a new clinical skill is to review our knowledge through the creation and application of clinical protocols and then experience their effects on ourselves. It is also essential to be guided by the scientific knowledge and evidence behind this new skill. During the live course, you will work through the foundations of NMES from its technical and physiological elements to its practical application via lectures, clinical protocols and hands-on sessions. The lecture part will focus on the concepts of evidence-based practice, the clinical decision-making process, research-based evidence, and will include coverage of contraindications and risks associated with the practice of NMES. The second part will include technical demonstrations followed by your hands on experience under supervision. Finally, the clinical protocol part will demonstrate applications of NMES designed to manage muscle wasting and optimize function.
