Edema Management 101

This course is designed to enhance the working knowledge and skill set of the professionals working directly with health care clinicians (PT/PTAs and OT/COTAs) in the management of a variety of edema presentations. Professionals will be instructed on both anatomy and physiology of the lymphatic and venous system as it pertains edema management. It will introduce various edema presentations and participants will learn to recognize the indications and contraindications for compression therapy. A focus of the course will be on the continuum of compression: Etiology and assessment of swelling -> compression product selection -> compression application. There will be ample time for discussion and case study..

Julia Cameron

MOT, OTR, CLT, LANA

Julia Cameron is a graduate of Texas Woman’s University with 15 years of experience in a variety of settings including orthopedics, oncology, hands, neurology, and burns. She graduated with a Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy. Her career began while working inpatient and outpatient in a level I trauma hospital. She has experience with both children and adults. She is a certified lymphedema therapist and LANA certified. She is trained in the Graston technique. Julia enjoys treating a variety of patients. Her core treatment values are centered on both manual and exercise techniques.


Christina Hankins

PT, CWCS, CLT

Christina received her Master’s in Physical therapy at Texas State University in 2003. In 2004, while she was working at St David’s rehab hospital on the Neurological floor, she managed a wound care program as well as developed policies and procedures for a skin care team. In 2005 she received her CLT with the Chickly institute; since then she has worked primarily with lymphedema clients in various settings including; acute, inpatient, outpatient, and home health settings. Christina has attended many advanced courses on both wound care and lymphedema treatment and is an instructor with the Norton school of lymphedema specializing in teaching lymphedema techniques to wound care clinicians. Currently, she is employed at Accolade home health where she has developed, marketed, and grown the only home health lymphedema program in Austin, Texas.

Christina became a certified wound care specialist in 2007, yet has been practicing in the wound care area since 1997. She has lectured to local community groups, clinicians and physicians regarding lymphedema and wound care as well as chairs a local lymphedema therapist support group. Christina specializes in lymphedema and wound care treatment and will remain dedicated to furthering awareness of better integration between the two treatments.

Suzie Ehmann

PT DPT, CWS, CLT- LANA

Suzie Ehmann is the Clinical Coordinator of the Edema Management Program at Stanly Regional Medical Center in Albemarle, North Carolina. She is a 1997 graduate of the physical therapy program at University of the Sciences in Philadelphia where she received her Bachelor of Science in Health Management and a Masters in Physical Therapy. She received her Doctor of Physical Therapy from Temple University 2003. She received her lymphedema training in 2005 from Guenter Klose with Klose Training and received her LANA certification in 2006. Additionally, she completed an advanced lymphedema training program at the Foldi Clinic in Germany 2007. In addition, Ms. Ehmann is a Certified Wound Therapist (CWS) since 2005.
Since 2003, Ms. Ehmann has dedicated her practice to the evaluation and comprehensive treatment of patients with lymphatic disorders and chronic non-healing wounds. She has presented numerous educational programs for local community hospitals and breast cancer support groups. In addition, Ms. Ehmann has presented at the Symposium for Advance Wound Care, the American Physical Therapy Association Combined Sections, and numerous collegiate physical programs. Ms. Ehmann has also served on the NLN Marilyn Westbrook review committee from 2006 to 2010. She is an active member of the National Lymphedema Network.
