Course Description

PRE-RECORDED EVENT (Self-Study)
This introductory level course for OT/COTAs and PT/PTAs covers the basic theoretical background behind the development and management of contractures. Theory is presented against the background of practical realities of therapists in the field. The different types of contractures will be discussed and common pathologies leading to their development will be identified. Management techniques will be discussed, including the potential of using various modalities such as Ultrasound, Shortwave Diathermy and Electrotherapy. At the conclusion of the presentation, commonly used treatment protocols are presented as a guideline for use by the therapists in the field.

Course Requirements:
  • Computer with internet and working speakers/sound are required for this course.
  • Course must be completed within 30 days of activation (activate course within 6 months of purchase).
  • An online multiple-choice quiz (80% passing score) and submission of an online evaluation form are required for successful completion.
  • A certificate of completion will be available to print immediately after course is successfully completed.

Randy Worde: BS in Occupational Therapy from Medical College of Georgia; certified Hand Therapist since 1998; completed massage therapy training at Massage Institute of Cleveland in 2005; strong clinical background in orthopedics and hand therapy; hand therapy program coord. at Siskin Hospital for Physical Rehabilitation in Chattanooga, TN; from 1999-2005 served as the Dir. of Rehabilitation at TriState Orthopedics (a physician owned practice) in Cleveland, TN.; from 1993-1999 Occupational Therapy Supervisor at Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton, GA; worked with contracture management; member of the American Occupational Therapy Association, Tennessee Occupational Therapy Association, and American Society of Hand Therapists.
