Course Description

Understanding how the swallowing is controlled neurologically doesnt have to be as intimidating as it sounds. Once understood, this information can be key in pinpointing the causes of swallowing symptoms and in choosing the most effective treatments. This course breaks down the neurophysiology of swallowing into easily understood sections and uses the information to provide guidelines and specific treatment strategies for how to treat swallowing with patients following different types of cortical and brainstem strokes. In addition to a general overview of the neurological system, the course also provides clear details of how each cranial nerve specifically impacts the swallow. The course concludes with practical application of the information presented in case studies.

Reviews

"Thank you!"

- Wichita, KS / Jun 2021

"Great instructor! "

- Redondo Beach, CA / Mar 2021

"The speaker was very clear and knowledgeable. However, the slides were mixed up during the cranial nerve section - she talked about one nerve but had a screen up that was another nerve. It was difficult to read some of the slides. I had to get bifocals to read them - even the speaker had to put on her glasses to read them. She had a lot of slides in her presentation that were not in the handout so it took time to pause and copy what was on the slide. It took a lot longer than one hour. I would suggest revising the handout. "
