Course Description

Juggling a challenging caseload of vestibular and balance patients? This 2-day interactive introductory course for PT/PTA’s, OT/COTA’s and ATCs will walk you across the tight-rope of assessment, treatment plans, exercise programs, documentation, billing and successful program development for patients needing intervention with various balance challenges. Through hands-on experiences, this energetic Master of Ceremonies will take you through the most common cause and effects of vertigo, the sensory systems used for balance and their impact on the geriatric population. You will compare the different assessment methods used for functional balance and learn which methods are best for specific patient needs. Come one, come all…“The Balancing Act” will build your clinical skill dedicated to your patients and will map out ideas on how to create, build and market a dynamic balance program for your facility.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the different components of balance, the sensory organization involved and the different strategies utilized to maintain balance
  • Formulate exercises and adapt the environment to maximize input from the sensory system
  • Describe the different technological testing methods for balance
  • Describe and demonstrate appropriate manual testing for balance
  • Identify basic anatomy of the vestibular system and BPPV
  • Describe the treatment methods of BPPV
  • Outline the fundamental elements of a successful balance and fall prevention program

Noi Mavredes

Noi is a Senior Therapist at Siskin Rehabilitation Hospital in Chattanooga, TN. where she was instrumental in the development of the Balance Program and Fall Prevention Program at Siskin. Noi is NDT trained and has a degree in Biology and Physical Therapy. She has 15 years of experience specializing in General Rehab and Balance. Noi has been featured in the Healthscope Magazine and a contributor to the Health Section of the Chattanooga Times Free Press. She has used her training to educate case managers and speaks for various conferences. Noi’s passion and dedication to helping balance patients is evident in her energetic and interactive teaching.
