Course Description
This Intermediate level course was designed to provide SLP, OT, & PT professionals with the ability to identify, assess, and treat postural deficits in our adult population. Many of the concepts can be applied to all ages. This course focuses on actionable techniques we can use interprofessionally to improve postural health in those under our care. Patients/Clients dealing with pain, dependance, social isolation, decreased mobility due to postural issues require clinicians that are versed in a plethora of skills, techniques to move the needle toward their goal areas and get them back to living a full life. This course provides an array of strategies learners can utilize immediately with their next patient.
SLP professionals will engage in postural treatment ideas to improve areas under their specific scope of practice including dysphagia, breath support, voice, executive functioning.
OT professionals will understand ways postural health can improve areas related to their scope of practice including ADL Independence and engagement, pain management, attention to task, and functional mobility.
PT professionals will learn strategies focused on their scope of practice including mobility, transfers, balance, and gait.

Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe postural health issues and identify patients that will benefit from a postural health focused plan of care.
- List at least 3 postural assessments to be utilized upon initial evaluation of patients with postural issues.
- Apply at least 4 new treatment interventions in their treatment sessions to improve posture and decrease poor posture risk factors in their current setting.
- Identify skilled documentation strategies related to postural health measurable outcomes.
- List 3 ways each discipline can improve collaboration related to postural health.
- Implement positioning strategies based on identified postural observations to improve patient outcomes

Wendy Underwood has been an Occupational Therapy Assistant for over 25 years working with all ages in a variety of settings. She has extensive knowledge and experience with postural health and its impact on functional independence.
Wendy is the Continuing Education Administrator and Campus Relations Liaison for Therapy Management Corporation.
She is Pelvic Muscle Dysfunction & Bowel and Bladder Heath Certified, Mindful Care Certified, an American Lung Association Better Breathers Club Certified Facilitator, and Kombucha & OT Podcast Host. Wendy enjoys giving back to her profession and has recently been appointed to the AOTA Bylaws, Policy, & Procedures Committee.
Wendy has a vast resume of course development and instructional experience focused on an interprofessional and collaborative approach to therapy interventions. Her goal for each course developed and taught is that each learner can use the knowledge and skills gained with their very next patient.
