Course Description

An introductory-level course introducing allied health clinicians to the concept, foundational principles, and history of narrative medicine, how it relates to person-centered care across disciplines, and the benefits for clinicians, patients, and the broader interdisciplinary team. Participants will also engage in an interactive workshop for hands-on practice with replicable techniques.

ATTENDANCE:

  1. On Tour Options: Attend the course in person at any City/Date listed. Streaming is only available for courses held at the Gulf Breeze/CIAO Studios location.
  2. Livestream Options:
    1. Attend via Livestream from anywhere around the world. Livestream participants will login to access the event from their computer.
    2. Or – Attend in person at CIAO Studios in Gulf Breeze, FL.

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe key reasons why a narrative medicine approach is critical to providing person-centered care
  • Describe specific ways in which this approach might enrich the patient experience
  • Describe key reasons why this approach might enrich the clinician experience
  • Identify three specific activities or modalities to employ during clinical care
  • Identify practical strategies for implementing in the “real world” of a clinic setting

Kathryn Bradley

Kathryn W. Bradley SLPD, CCC Dr. Kathryn W. Bradley has practiced as an SLP for twelve years, and has served as Manager, Rehabilitation Services for Atlantic Health, a hospital system on the East Coast, for the past five years, where she provides clinical and operational leadership for outpatient SLP services across the system. Dr. Bradley additionally serves as adjunct professor at Kean University, where she teaches both graduate and undergraduate students, focusing on adult cognitive-linguistic disorders as well as pediatric dysphagia and feeding disorders. Dr. Bradley earned her BA in Neuroscience from Columbia University; her MA in Speech-Language-Hearing from Temple University; and her SLPD from Northwestern University, where her culminating project focused on the impact of Narrative Medicine on the development of empathy and clinical presence in graduate student clinicians.
