Course Description

This course was developed to provide clinicians with a more in depth understanding of posture and positioning treatment to improve patient outcomes. Learners are provided with a deep dive into the most common abnormalities associated with posture and positioning issues and strategies to improve their evaluation, assessment, and treatment of these abnormalities.

This course is part 3 of a 3 part series to provide Learners with an opportunity to become an expert in the field of posture and positioning.

This series should be completed in order.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify specific treatment techniques to implement with patients impacted by Postural deficits.
  • Identify Postural Exercise programs that are safe for patients with varying ages and diagnoses and train patients and/or carers to improve carryover of progress.
  • Describe strategies and proper equipment needed to improve in and out of bed positioning issues.
  • Develop skills needed to be the expert in posture and positioning to improve patient outcomes within their setting.

Wendy Underwood

Wendy Underwood has been an Occupational Therapy Assistant for over 25 years working with all ages in a variety of settings. She has extensive knowledge and experience with postural health and its impact on functional independence.
Wendy is the Continuing Education Administrator and Campus Relations Liaison for Therapy Management Corporation.
She is Pelvic Muscle Dysfunction & Bowel and Bladder Heath Certified, Mindful Care Certified, an American Lung Association Better Breathers Club Certified Facilitator, and Kombucha & OT Podcast Host. Wendy enjoys giving back to her profession and has recently been appointed to the AOTA Bylaws, Policy, & Procedures Committee.
Wendy has a vast resume of course development and instructional experience focused on an interprofessional and collaborative approach to therapy interventions. Her goal for each course developed and taught is that each learner can use the knowledge and skills gained with their very next patient.
