Course Description

Do you ever find that you are faced with treating individuals with Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder, or ARFID, and you are unsure how to best treat them? Are you expected to treat older children or people with food phobias/anxiety and do not have the skills with which to best help them? Are you searching for better ways to achieve greater outcomes for your patients with anxiety around eating? We were not taught this in school, and many of us are in need of ways to better help our patients with this complex and challenging diagnosis. For years, Kelly Komisaruk has specialized in Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder and helping people specifically with this diagnosis. She will not only give you a solid understanding of what ARFID is (so you can explain it to caregivers!) but will also fill your therapy tool box with resources you need to be able to walk your patients through a journey to be able to eat successfully again. You will be able to troubleshoot, plan therapy sessions, and gain a better understanding of what your patients are going through while eating. You will leave this course feeling confident in your ability to take on your biggest feeding challenges like never before. You will also learn Kelly's successful "Low Pressure Still Progressing" approach to ARFID treatment to guide you along your way!

She opened up her practice in Lake Nona in 2020 and has grown to offer feeding services to children, teens, and adults. She is about to open up her intensive brick and mortar feeding clinic in 2022 where she plans to expand the services she offers to families nationwide. Really appreciate the break down of exposure therapy as well as the Progressing approach to ARFID therapy with the analogy to the car.

Thank you for presenting this important topic.

    - Gulf Breeze, FL / Mar 2023

As mentioned above, I really enjoyed this course as well as the CIAO organization of the course. This was my first time using CIAO and it was very easy and streamlined and I highly recommend. The presenter was great and delivered the information in a way that was great to follow and answered questions which were extremely helpful. I would have liked a little more time to go over actual treatment strategies to implement during sessions. For example, she spoke a lot about 3,2,1 go or 1,2,3 go but I feel that a lot of my kids won't accept foods even when they have picked them out and have buy in for what we are wanting to achieve. That would be really helpful to go over barriers and strategies to work that in during sessions for those kids who have a harder time.

Excellent presentation of topic. I appreciate that the content did not drift into other pediatric feeding disorders and focused on only ARFID.

    - Gulf Breeze, FL / Mar 2023

It would have been nice to have had video sharing abilities with other attendees so that it was more interactive, and could engage in more conversations

    - Gulf Breeze, FL / Mar 2023

I had a basic idea of how to treat and this course confirmed that I was on the right track with exposure therapy and low pressure. I would like to take Kelly Komisaruk's feeding class she taught the day before the live stream and join the CIAO club. Is her feeding class online to view? Thank you for you help. I am so glad I found this group.

    Thank you!

    - Gulf Breeze, FL / Jun 2022

Great course with lots of information. If I had any suggestion, it would be to show a few clips of actual clients during therapy to see how strategies are used during therapy.

    - Gulf Breeze, FL / Jun 2022

Thank you, Ciao, for your support and the option to finish today! My washing machine had gotten stuck on flood while going to bed with a load started and waking up to waterfall and lakes! I had to leave the class to attend to demo floor man and talk to adjuster! I am so glad I was able to complete this course before I see my patient Wednesday. Y’all are the best.

Great job presenting! I don't want ARFID, but if I did I would want Kelly as my therapist!
