Course Description

This introductory, self-paced online course from Advanced Brain Technologies provides in-depth training in The Listening Program® (TLP), a music-based therapy designed to support brain function through the auditory system. Participants will explore the structure and function of the ear, including key components of the auditory pathway, and how the brain processes sound to influence attention, communication, sensory integration, and emotional regulation. Therapists often face the challenge of supporting clients with complex neurological profiles, including auditory processing difficulties, sensory integration challenges, speech and language delays, and executive function weaknesses. This course addresses those concerns by providing specific evaluation and implementation strategies using TLP. It introduces a structured, evidence-informed framework that helps professionals identify appropriate candidates, select and adapt listening protocols, and monitor progress over time. Designed for occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, and related professionals, the course blends neuroscience with practical tools for real-world application. Instructional modules cover hearing anatomy, the role of auditory input in neuroplasticity, elements of sound, TLP music production, frequency training zones, delivery methods, and implementation in clinical, educational, and home settings. By the end of the course, participants will be prepared to confidently integrate The Listening Program into their practice, improving client outcomes and expanding their therapeutic toolkit.

  • Explain the basic anatomy and function of the auditory system and how it supports listening and sensory integration.
  • Define the pathways of sound from the outer ear through the brain using diagrams and visual aids.
  • Relate the impact of music as organized sound on the nervous system and its relevance to clinical outcomes.
  • Define key terminology used in The Listening Program and apply it accurately during case discussions and course activities.
  • Identify core components of TLP’s proprietary music production process and summarize how they contribute to program outcomes.
  • Compare and contrast the four TLP Core Programs (Spectrum, Achieve, Level One, and inTime) based on structure, goals, and target populations.
  • Select appropriate intake forms, monitoring tools, and assessments to support effective implementation of TLP.
  • Analyze client profiles to identify listening goals and recommend appropriate program options.
  • Evaluate various delivery models and determine the most suitable approach based on the setting and client needs.
