Course Description

Oral Motor Exercises! Sensory Stimulation! E-Stim! Behavioral Programming!

How does it all fit together? How do you know when to use the different techniques out there? Should we combine approaches? How do you know where to start, when to “push,” and when to stop?

Participants will learn the relationship between a child’s gross motor abilities and feeding skills. The course will cover the sensory, motor, and behavioral components of feeding disorders and how to address them in a comprehensive treatment program.

In this intermediate course, participants will learn how to work together to evaluate and choose different techniques and modalities for the specific needs of the child, based on the knowledge, roles, and scope of each discipline.

On Day 2, using case studies and group discussions, OTs, PTs, SLPs, and Dysphagia Professionals will explore contributing medical problems and family dynamics. You will learn what can and cannot be done to help a child with severe gastrointestinal or cardiopulmonary problems eat.

Additionally, the course will address how prematurity contributes to feeding problems, the effects of medications on swallowing, and why it’s crucial to know what meds your client is on. You will also discover the often overlooked impact on families who have a child with a feeding disorder and leave with practical ways to support and empower these families.

Stop trying to use someone else’s “cookbook” and develop a unique program tailored to each client!
