Course Description

The ReVital Cancer Rehabilitation Specialist certification program is designed to educate rehabilitation clinicians in the didactic knowledge and psychomotor skills needed to treat potential physical impairments and functional limitations found in some of the most common forms of cancer. Content will be delivered in the form of online didactic content, live skills courses, interactive case discussions and a comprehensive final examination. Online content consists of three curricula-introduction to oncology, where clinicians will learn topics such as basics of cancer diagnosis, staging, grading and medical management; breast cancer rehabilitation where specific treatments and management of common impairments will be discussed; and psychosocial aspects of cancer survivorship, where clinicians will learn about death and dying, enhancement of personal coping strategies and how to have difficult conversations that may be necessary with the oncology population. This curriculum will also briefly address management of mild cognitive impairment. Live skills courses will allow clinicians to practice the application of manual therapy related to the individual with, or recovering from, cancer, as well as the purpose of, precautions for, and proper prescription of exercise for the top six cancers seen in outpatient cancer rehab clinics based on current available literature. Patient case presentation/discussion and role playing will be incorporated to facilitate practical learning.
